Attorney Found Naked In Courthouse With 14-Year-Old

POSTED: 1:07 pm EST January 16, 2007
UPDATED: 1:20 pm EST January 16, 2007

PHILADELPHIA -- A criminal defense lawyer was arrested after a sheriff's deputy found him naked with a 14-year-old girl in a courthouse conference room, authorities said Tuesday.

Larry Charles, 49, has been charged with solicitation, attempted statutory sexual assault and related counts, said Lt. Dan Bagnell of the Police Department's Special Victims Unit.

A sheriff's deputy making his rounds in the Criminal Justice Center on Monday afternoon looked into a lawyers' conference room on the third floor and discovered Charles and the girl, Bagnell said.

"He had asked for sex. But there was no physical contact we're aware of" by the time the deputy arrived at the scene, Bagnell said.

Bagnell said the girl was not a client of Charles, but their exact relationship was not clear.

Charles was awaiting arraignment early Tuesday afternoon and bail was not yet set. A woman who answered the phone at his office said she could not immediately comment.

Courts were closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and it was unclear how Charles and the girl got into the conference room.

Though court proceedings were not in session, the courthouse was open for attorneys who might want to conduct other business in the building.

Even if a nigger is thrown a law degree and an excellent job as an attorney, it's inborn nigger nature never goes away. It can only be temporarily subdued. As with most niggers who have riches or fame or good jobs, TNB eventually comes out because deep down, THEY ARE NIGGERS AND NIGGERS DO TNB, IT IS THAT SIMPLE!!!! Sorry for shouting but it angers me to see the white race take so long to learn this very simple lesson regarding the nigger. ARRRGRR!!!!

Sources: Lawyer Found Nude In CJC With Young Teen

A Philadelphia lawyer was arrested Monday after alleged inappropriate conduct with a young girl inside Philadelphia's Criminal Justice Center.

Sources told CBS 3 a Sheriff's Deputy entered a room on the third floor of the CJC building and found 49-year-old Larry Charles, who was naked, with his 14-year-old goddaughter.

“He had asked for sex. But there was no physical contact we’re aware of”” by the time the deputy arrived on the scene, said Lt. Dan Bagnell of the police department’s Special Victims Unit.

The teen’s mother said Charles, a criminal defense attorney, was a family friend and trusted mentor to the young girl.

The mother also told CBS 3 police are trying to determine whether two additional female family members may have been victimized by Charles in the past.

Charles had no comment as he was taken into custody Monday evening.

Charles has been charged with solicitation, attempted statutory sexual assault and related counts, said Lt. Dan Bagnell of the police department’s Special Victims Unit.

Lawyer found naked with girl

They rode the elevator together: the tall, sharply dressed, middle-age defense lawyer and the trusting girl.

When the elevator reached the third floor of the Criminal Justice Center on Monday, Larry Charles, 49, quietly led his 14-year-old companion to a secluded conference room, police records say. But once inside, Charles wedged a chair against the door.

Then he removed his clothes until he stood naked before the teen, according to the arrest report, a copy of which was obtained by the Daily News.

Charles asked the girl, who later identified herself to police as his goddaughter, if she wanted to have sex with him. When she said no, police said, Charles masturbated in front of her.

Although police said Charles did not have physical contact with the teen, the lawyer was charged early yesterday morning with a host of felonies - burglary, false imprisonment, statutory sexual assault, contact with a minor, unlawful restraint, corrupting the morals of a minor, criminal trespass and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was found naked in the conference room about 3:30 p.m. by sheriff's deputies who had grown suspicious of the story he had given them about an hour earlier.

The Criminal Justice Center, on Filbert Street near 13th, was closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, except for protection-from-abuse orders and arraignments.

But cops said that when Charles and the girl arrived at the center about 2:30 p.m., he told security guards that she was there to post bond for someone.

The story didn't sit well with two sheriff's deputies, who searched the basement of the center when they couldn't find him.

They were eventually tipped off that Charles was ensconced in the third-floor conference room. When one of the deputies attempted to open the door to the room, someone pushed back from the other side, according to the arrest report.

One deputy finally charged through the door, and found Charles - and the girl, trembling in a corner of the room, her hands covering her face.

Charles, of 10th Street near Oak Lane in East Oak Lane, was taken to the police Special Victims Unit, where detectives spent most of Monday night sorting through the sordid tale.

Charles was being held at Police Headquarters last night, waiting to be arraigned. Investigators said last night they were examining the possibility that Charles had assaulted other relatives of the girl, whose family could not be reached for comment.

The girl told detectives that Charles is her godfather, but police were unsure of the exact nature of their relationship. "We can only confirm that he is a known individual to the family," said police spokesman Capt. Benjamin Naish.

The serious nature of the charges could put Charles' career in peril.

Paul Kazaras, assistant executive director of the Philadelphia Bar Association, said the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania could wait until the case is resolved before taking action against him.

"But there may be other complaints [against Charles] on record that only the Disciplinary Board may be aware of," Kazaras said. "That could lead them to feel they need to take emergency action to immediately suspend him."

According to the Disciplinary Board's Web site, Charles' license to practice law was suspended in 1991 for 18 months, following a criminal conviction. Details of that conviction were not available last night. His license was reinstated in 1996, and Charles went on to gain fame defending celebrities like rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard and former welterweight boxing champ Meldrick Taylor.

In 1990, Charles, then a counselor for the Philadelphia Youth Advocate Program, was fined $1,000 and sentenced to two years' probation for falsifying records to indicate he was taking care of troubled juveniles when he actually wasn't. Four other counselors were fined as well.

And according to court records, Charles was arrested in 1979 on charges of indecent assault, indecent exposure and corrupting the morals of a minor, but the charges were dropped.

The state Department of Revenue, meanwhile, has filed a $28,000 lien against a property Charles owns on 77th Avenue near Ogontz Avenue in West Oak Lane.

Just one more of a long line of worthless niggers that got into law school through endless affirmative action programs and paid for it with money given to these worthless groid apes that have too low of an I.Q. to compete for these coveted slots on their own merits. But whatever their unearned and freely assigned diplomas say and no matter what title they call themselves, their first title, "NIGGER", will always apply.

Cop: Lawyer's 'a predator'
He was found naked with girl, 14

Yesterday's front page focused on Charles.

Larry Charles' depraved, naked encounter with a 14-year-old girl in a quiet courthouse had been in the works for quite some time, police said yesterday.

He spent years getting close to his victim's family, whom he came to know after representing a relative in a court case.

Police said Charles' victim was so enamored of the smooth-talking, stylish defense attorney that she even took to calling him her godfather.

The carefully orchestrated charade came crashing down on Monday, when police said Charles, 49, allegedly masturbated in front of the teen in a secluded conference room at the Criminal Justice Center after she refused to have sex with him.

"He planned and schemed over a long period of time," said Capt. John Darby, head of the police Special Victims Unit. "He knew the family for years and gained a certain amount of confidence with them. To some degree, he was a mentor to the victim."

Darby said investigators were examining the possibility that Charles could have victimized the teen's siblings and other relatives.

"The investigation is not over by any stretch of the imagination," Darby said. "We're looking at any family member who might have had exposure to this individual, and we'll possibly look beyond the family as well."

Darby said it was no accident that Charles had wound up at the center with the girl on Monday, when most of the building was closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

According to police records, Charles led the girl to a third-floor conference room, where he performed his act of debauchery while the horrified girl shielded her eyes in a corner.

Sheriff's deputies, suspicious about Charles' appearance at the center on a holiday, eventually barged into the room and found him standing nude.

"He's a predator," Darby said. "He's just as bad as the guy who sneaks up on a kid on the street."

Charles was arrested and charged with felonies including false imprisonment, aggravated statutory sexual assault and corrupting the morals of a minor.

He was arraigned shortly after 4 a.m. yesterday and posted a $5,000 bail .

He retained Angelo Cameron as his attorney.

Charles, whose license to practice law was suspended in 1991 in a fraud case, could end up facing harsh disciplinary action from the state Supreme Court Disciplinary Board.

"We haven't decided our road map in defending our case," Cameron said.

When asked how Charles was holding up, Cameron noted that his client is innocent until proven guilty.

"He's an attorney," he said. "He's strong. These are mere accusations."

[Warning! The disgusting mating habits of this jigaboo are described in this article; yuck!]

Teen testifies about alleged trysts with defense attorney

Teen testifies about alleged trysts with defense attorney

DEFENSE LAWYER Larry Charles - the alleged pervert accused of luring a 14-year-old girl to the Criminal Justice Center for sex on Martin Luther King Jr. Day - had been naughty with her before, the teen testified yesterday, and had lauded her with a hundred bucks and boots.

She called him "godfather" and thought that the lawyers' lounge in the court building was "his office."

At Charles' preliminary hearing in Family Court yesterday on rape, sexual assault and other charges, the ninth-grader said she had met the lawyer, who is not related to her, through an older sister, who has since passed away.

The attorney, 49, dressed at the hearing in a dark-blue pinstripe suit, had treated the teen to "clothes, sneaks and boots" and to "Red Lobster, Chinese buffet and Old Country Buffet," she testified.

Sometimes, the teen said during her hourlong testimony, he touched her and wanted sex.

Charles, of East Oak Lane, was caught at the Criminal Justice Center after sheriff's deputies found him naked in the lawyers' lounge.

On the holiday, Charles picked the teen up from her Philadelphia home and took her to the court building in the afternoon, the teen testified, speaking into a microphone in a serious voice, her long braided hair swinging by her hips.

After he punched the code to get into the lawyers' lounge, she said, they entered the large room, then went into a small room with a soda machine and a chair.

In between questions by Assistant District Attorney James Carpenter, the teen testified that in the small room:

"He put the chair near the door, then he closed it. He told me to take my clothes off. I took them off... . My sneakers, my jeans, my panties."

Charles got completely naked, then sat in a chair and "told me to sit on his lap," she said. "He was feeling on himself."

Her "godfather" then told her to move her hand up and down on "his ding-a-ling," she said, as he felt underneath her bra.

"I was doing it for a while, then something came out - white stuff," she said. "Some went on the tissue, some went on the floor. He wiped himself, then he wiped the floor."

Around that time, after the teen got dressed, sheriff's deputy Andrew Ortiz tried opening the door to the small room in the third-floor lawyers' lounge, but someone on the other side kept pushing back, the deputy testified yesterday.

According to Ortiz, Charles said: "Wait a minute, I'll be right out." When Ortiz finally opened the door, he found Charles "completely naked" even without socks, he said in response to questioning by defense attorney Angelo Cameron.

Under direct examination, Ortiz said the young girl was "in the corner cowering. She had her hands up over her mouth."

Ortiz said he told Charles: "Get dressed. You're done."

The deputy cuffed Charles and emptied out the lawyer's pockets. Charles asked if he could throw out some tissues, but the deputy and a sergeant put the tissues in a bag for evidence.

Then, as they were exiting the lounge, "Mr. Charles had a tissue in his hand," Ortiz said. "He tried to toss it in a trash can," but it landed on the floor. Ortiz grabbed it to add to the evidence bag.

Ortiz testified that he went to search for Charles about 2:40 p.m. that day.

On federal holidays, the public, including lawyers, are only allowed in the basement of the Criminal Justice Center for bail postings and other matters. Ortiz said he couldn't find Charles in the basement, so he went to the lawyers' lounge.

Sheriff's deputy Delores Ramos testified under questioning by Assistant District Attorney Nicole Tate-Phillips that she first saw Charles, whom she recognized as an attorney, and the girl when they entered the building.

"He hurried along past me," she said. After the metal detector at the public entrance went off, Ramos asked Charles what he was doing. He told her, "I'm going down to pay bail," she testified.

Ramos told him that his guest needed to sign in. To that Charles replied, "She cannot read or write English," testified Ramos. Yet, at that moment, the teen was writing her name in the log book.

The teen also testified that sometime last fall, Charles took her to the large room in the lawyers' lounge.

"He told me to sit on his lap" as "his ding-a-ling" got "hard," she said. They were both clothed.

And he touched her twice in his Center City office, she testified.

Around early December, she went in his car to his second-floor office on Chestnut Street near 10th. The girl said she didn't want to go, but complied after he hit her in the face with an open hand while in the car.

In the office, he told her to take off her clothes, she said, which she did. He took off his. "I told him I ain't going to have sex with him," she testified. To that, she said, Charles pushed her on the couch, got on top of her, penetrated her and "we was having sex."

Charles then began feeling himself and "something came out white," she testified.

Afterward, they went to nearby Bare Feet Shoes, where Charles bought her boots, she said.

The girl also went to Charles' office sometime after Christmas, she said. That time, she sat in a chair with her jeans and panties off while he sat on his knees between her legs and "stuck his finger in my vagina," she testified.

When he finished, "he took me home and gave me some money," she said.

Then there was the time last fall, about October, when he took her to a one-level hotel in New Jersey. On the bed, the teen testified they both had removed their clothes, but she did not want to have sex with him.

"He just stuck it in" she testified, saying he put one hand on her neck to keep her down.

That time, he gave her $100.

During cross-examination, Cameron asked if Charles ever threatened her to get her to go with him.

The teen testified: "I didn't want to go with him." When Cameron asked again whether any threats were made, she said, "no."

Berks County Common Pleas Judge Albert A. Stallone, sitting as a Municipal Court judge, held Charles for trial on charges of rape, sexual assault, indecent exposure, corruption of a minor, false imprisonment, criminal trespass and related offenses. Stallone, a visiting judge, was asked to preside over the hearing because it involved a Philadelphia attorney.

Charles faces a March 9 arraignment. His jury trial is expected to be scheduled for the week of April 30.

Prosecutor Carpenter asked the judge to hold Charles, who has been free after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bail, on no bail contending he was a flight risk and a risk to the community or to increase bail to $4 million.

To determine Charles' financial situation, the defendant was called to the witness stand.

Under questioning by Carpenter, Charles said he has $16 in a Commerce Bank account and a negative balance of $350 at Citizens Bank.

His wife, who is unemployed, owns the house they live in
on 10th Street near 69th Avenue, he said.

Last year, Charles said his income was about $50,000 for defending clients who "weren't rich." He has since lost his most recent clients, he said.

"My practice is over," Charles testified.

According to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania's Disciplinary Board, Charles' license was ordered to be temporarily suspended effective March 8.

After learning about Charles' finances, the judge denied the prosecution's request to raise bail.

"I'm at the end of my rope." Charles said.

"I'm looking for a job."

Lawyer Found Naked With Girl, 14, Pleads No Contest

POSTED: 3:27 pm EDT September 10, 2007
UPDATED: 4:26 pm EDT September 10, 2007

PHILADELPHIA -- A defense attorney who was found naked with a 14-year-old girl in a city courthouse pleaded no contest to charges of sexually assaulting the teen and five other girls.

Larry Charles, 50, entered the pleas on Monday, the day his trial was scheduled to begin.

Authorities have said a sheriff's deputy making his rounds in the courthouse on Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, looked into a lawyers' lounge and discovered Charles and the girl.

Charles, who often worked in the courthouse as a criminal defense attorney, was charged with rape and related offenses in that case.

After his arrest, five other girls came forward and testified that Charles assaulted them. Some of the girls testified they were assaulted multiple times from 2000 to the time of Charles' arrest in January 2007.

The girls were ages 5 to 10 at the time of the alleged attacks and are now ages 11 to 17. They testified the assaults occurred in motels, Charles' law offices, safe deposit box rooms at banks, and in the lawyers' lounge and a court anteroom.

Charles was charged in those cases with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, corruption of a minor and other charges. He pleaded no contest to all the counts.

After entering the no contest pleas, Charles' bail was revoked and he was sent to prison, pending his sentencing on Dec. 20. Prosecutors said they plan to recommend a sentence of 25 to 50 years in prison.

Three of the six girls are sisters, one girl was a cousin of theirs, and the two other girls are sisters, Assistant District Attorney James Carpenter said.

"The defendant befriended their families and started gradually conditioning them to be molested" and eventually escalating to rape, Carpenter said.

An attempt to reach Charles' lawyer, Angelo L. Cameron, for comment was not successful. A woman answering the phone at his listed office telephone number said that he did not live there, then hung up.
