Gunmen open fire on Montreal school campus
Shootings reported at Montreal school Students at a Montreal college said Wednesday that they have heard several shots in the building. Unconfirmed reports say up to four shooters had entered and began firing on students in the building. A Dawson College student who was in the building reported that two people who had been shot, including one who had been hit in the neck. Witnesses at the scene say they saw several people being carried away on stretchers. CTV reports that gunfire was heard in the cafeteria on the third floor of the college and that at least one suspect had been 'neutralized. An early repor t suggested perhaps as many as six people were injured and 20 shots were fired. Police scanners indicate that a gunman may still be in the school, but television reports show police surrounding buildings in the neighbourhood. According to reports, witnesses saw a man dressed in military fatigues take a rifle from the trunk of his car, enter the college, and begin shooting. Dawson College has 10,000 English-language students. The school is a CEGEP (junior college) located at the southwest corner of Sherbrooke Street and A****er Avenue in downtown Montreal. Television footage showed students fleeing the building which is just off the downtown core. Students have also been removed from the buildings. ---------------------------------- Montreal shoo ters dead: Police Montreal shooters dead: Police MONTREAL Two gunmen who attacked a Montreal college Wednesday are dead, a television network quoted a government source as saying. ![]() One of the gunmen appeared to have committed suicide and the other was shot by police, RDI said. The French television network RDI is reporting that a total of four people are dead and 16 have been injured after a man dressed in military fatigues stormed into the cafeteria of a Montreal college today and began shooting, one student said. Students at Dawson College said at least three people had been shot, including one in the neck. 'Three people got shot, that"s for sure ... I was right beside my friend that got shot, one student told the French-language RDI network. Michel Boyer told CTV that "I saw the gunman" firing at people at the atrium of the college. "I imm ediately hit the floor. He was shooting randomly. He was dressed in black and had a black gun. I heard about 20 shots. I ran away. I was a complete wreck. Nobody knew what was going on. Everybody was in tears. Everybody was worried for their own lives." He says there may have been other gunmen, but he didn't see any other gunmen. "I didn't see what was happening on the floor below me." 'He was less than six feet tall but I couldn"t see his face ... he was completely covered, he said, adding that the gunman was dressed in black army fatigues and had been armed with what looked to be a sniper"s rifle. Another student called Chloe was in tears as she told her story to radio station 940 News. 'All of a sudden I turned around and saw a man who was all dressed in black, she said. 'This dude with the clothes started pointing the gun at other people. He was right behind me. He turned around and went in the corner of the cafeteria. TV footage showed people being whisked away on stretchers. A health agency official told reporters three people had been taken to the hospital in critical condition. 'We fear for their lives. he said. Others have received lesser injuries, he said. An unconfirmed report said one suspect was dead. Television pictures showed panicked students fleeing from the campus and a pool of blood on the front steps of the college. Devansh Smri Vastava said he saw the man in the fatigues and that he heard about 20 shots. He also said teachers were running through the halls telling students to get out of the building, which is near the old Montreal Forum in the city"s west end. Ingrid Keigan, a 17-year-old student, said she saw one person outside who had been shot in the chest. People have also been evacuated from the nearby Alexis-Nihon shopping centre. Dawson College is a 10,000-student Anglophone CEGEP (CollÃÆge d'enseignement général et professionel), a communit y college Quebec students must attend after graduating high school and before heading to university. In 1988, the college moved to a historic convent in Montreal, and occupies a full block near the centre of the city. The news is a reminder of the 1989 massacre in Montreal when Marc Lepine entered the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and carried out a shooting rampage which killed 14 students, as well as wounding 13 others, before committing suicide shortly after. All of the victims targeted were women. The news that there may be up to four gunmen reminded others of the Columbine High School massacre in Colorado in 1999.

2 gunmen dead after Montreal college shooting Last Updated: Wednesday, September 13, 2006 | 3:14 PM ET CBC News Two gunmen who opened fire in a downtown Montreal college Wednesday afternoon are dead, and police are hunting a third suspect. At least 16 people were injured in a shooting rampage that terrorized students and staff at Dawson College, a CEGEP serving about 10,000 students. Montreal police confirmed that at least one suspect was "neutralized," but did not provide details on how the gunman died. "Whether he did it to himself or not, I can't yet say," said spokesman Yan LafreniÃÆre. Television images showed police officers dragging a bloody body out of the main doors of the building. Students inside Dawson College told reporters th ey heard several shots in the building around 1 p.m. Eyewitnesses say they saw a tall skinny man, wearing a black trench coat and a Mohawk haircut, walk into the cafeteria carrying a large gun. He apparently fired several shots. 'The most scary thing that has ever happened to me' Student Michel Boyer sought shelter behind a reception desk after seeing a gunman and fleeing from the vicinity of the shootings. "I thought this was fake, and it was just an excuse to get out of class," he told CBC Newsworld. "I did run away as soon as I did see that it was real." His voice shaking, he added, "It was the most scary thing that has ever happened to me." Boyer said he saw at least one man holding a gun. "I'm only 19 and to have flashes of your life and the people that you love going by you, it should not be allowed." Dawson College instructor Arielle Reid said she was in her office when the shooting began. "I heard the shots and a student ran into my office," she told CBC Newsworld. "People don't know what is going on and they don't know what to do." Students flee building Hundreds of students fled the building, and the area was cordoned off. Police officers wearing bulletproof vests kept people away from the college. "They're telling me, 'Go the other way, lady, you're in the line of fire,' " said CBC News reporter Nancy Wood at the scene. Hundreds of officers surrounded the building in downtown Montreal, cordoning off a park facing the school, as well as the Alexis Nihon Plaza, a nearby shopping centre. Police were still combing through the college floor by floor and room by room to secure the building, nearly one and half hours after the first shots were heard. They've set up a security perimeter that spans A****er, Sherbrooke and Maisonneuve streets. Similarities to notorious Montreal shooting The shooting raised chilling memories of Dec. 6, 1989, when 25-year-old Marc Lepine gunned down 14 w omen at Montreal's ÃÆÂcole Polytechnique before fatally shooting himself. Lepine roamed the school for 45 minutes, shouting, "I hate feminists," as he opened fire on the female engineering students. His use of a 30-round magazine brought immediate calls for gun control. In response, the federal government introduced a national firearms registry. Dawson students sheltered nearby Students and staff sought refuge at nearby Concordia University. The student union is running an emergency centre at the D.B Clarke auditorium on Maisonneuve Street, where psychologists are on hand to assist Dawson students and staff. Family members of Dawson College students can call (514) 280-2880 or (514) 280-2806 for more information, police said.

Canada: Satanic Goth "Vampire Freak" "Angel of Death "of Indian heritage" gets his 5 minutes of fame
Kimveer Gill, of Laval, north of Montreal is shown in this undated photo taken from a website. Gill is being named as the gunman in the Dawson College shootings by the Montreal La Presse newspaper. A trenchcoat-clad shooter with a scowl and a Mohawk haircut turned a college cafeteria into a combat zone with a commando-style assault that left him and a young woman dead Wednesday. There's a throwaway footnote that when he calls people "niggahs" in my journals ... it doesn't have to do anything with their skin colour."I call white people niggahs too, it's just fun," he writes. The website http://www.vampirefreaks.com, which the Star found last night, reveals Gill as a lonely, conflicted, self-described 25-year-old Goth freak from Montreal who hated authority figures like police, principals and teachers and singled out "jocks" for high school bullying. In a detailed user profile that usually accompanies the web pages of various members, Gill revealed that he was born on July 9, 1981 in Montreal of Indian heritage with a weakness for laziness and a fear of nothing. - (reader/newslist) - (Canada) |

Gunman's blog paints dark portrait By LAUREN KRUGEL ![]() Kimveer Gill, of Laval, north of Montreal is shown in this undated photo taken from a website. (CP PHOTO) (CP) - In an online blog, Kimveer Gill includes a photo of a tombstone with his name printed on it - below it the phrase: "Lived fast died young. Left a mangled corpse." The blog, posted on an online hub of goth culture , paints a dark portrait of the 25-year-old man published reports have identified as the trenchcoat-wearing gunman who opened fire on students at Montreal's Dawson College Wednesday, killing one and injuring 19 others. Gill's image gallery, which contains more than 50 photos, depicts the young man in various poses holding a Baretta CX4 Storm semi-automatic rifle and donning a long black trenchcoat and combat boots. "His name is Trench. you will come to know him as the Angel of Death," he wrote on his vampirefreaks.com profile. "He is not a people person. He has met a handfull (sic) of people in his life who are decent." But he writes that he finds the vast majority to be "worthless, no good, kniving, betraying lieing (sic), deceptive." The last of Gill's six journal entries Wednesday was posted at 10:41 a.m, about two hours before the gunmen was shot dead after the college shooting. In the latest one, Gill extols the virtues of a morning quaff of whisky. Other posts Wednesday deal with topics as mundane as dry contact lenses, purple freezies, and eating eggs and toast for breakfast. It is not clear when the photographs were posted. The blog's prominent photo shows a close up of Gill curled into the fetal position, his intense brown eyes peering into the camera from between his bent knees. "Rock and Roll baby!" reads the caption below another photo, tongue outstretched, holding up a black semi-automatic weapon with one hand and making the sign of the devil with another. "I think I have an obbsetion (sic) with guns . . . muahahaha," is the inscription below another picture of Gill aiming the barrel of the gun at the camera. "Anger and hatred simmers within me," said another caption below a head shot of Gill grimacing. The site also has lengthly lists of likes and dislikes. On the "likes" list are: first-person-shooter video games, "Super Psycho Maniacs roaming the streets freely," massacres, t renchcoats, destruction and "crushing my enemies skulls." He also shows a penchant for semi-automatic handguns, combat shotguns, sawed-off shotguns, assault rifles and myriad other weapons. He dislikes: "The world and everything in it." "But to be more specific," he continues, he hates jocks, preps, country music, Hip Hop, "all those who oppose my rule." Gill seems to harbour particular disdain for authority, including police, "all the government on Earth," "bible-thumping know-it-alls" and God. Gills list of favourite music groups is a who's who of heavy metal: Ozzy Osbourne, Marilyn Manson, Iron Maiden, Danzig and Metallica, but only the "old stuff." His favourite movies list includes mostly gory horror films. He enjoys violent video games including the controversial "Postal," a first-person shooter game, in which the protagonist goes on a killing spree while completing everyday errands. A questionnaire on the blog reveals both banal and disturbing insights into Gill's life. He likes drinking, owns 300 CDs, prefers Burger King over MacDonalds and says "heavy metal rules." He writes that he is 6-foot-1, was born in Montreal and is of Indian heritage. His weakness is laziness and he fears nothing. A goal he'd like to achieve by the end of the year is to stay alive. However, responding to the question, "How do you want to die?" Gill replied "like Romeo and Juliet - or in a hail of gunfire."

![]() Historical Note: The worst mass-murder in Canadian history was that of 14 college girls shot to death by a "Marc Lepine" whose true birth name was: Gamil Gharbi, the son of an Algerian Muslim immigrant Liess Gharbi. Gamil Gharbi changed his name to Lepine. Ah, the rewards of Diversity and Immigration. Genevieve Bergeron, 21, was a 2nd year scholarship student in civil engineering. Helene Colgan, 23, was in her final year of mechanical engineering and planned to take her master's degree. Nathalie Croteau, 23, was in her final year of mechanical engineering. Barbara Daigneault, 22, was in her final year of mechanical engineering and held a teaching assistantship. Anne-Marie Edward, 21, was a first year student in chemical engineering. Maud H aviernick, 29, was a 2nd year student in engineering materials, a branch of metallurgy, and a graduate in environmental design. Barbara Maria Klucznik, 31, was a 2nd year engineering student specializing in engineering materials. Maryse Laganiere, 25, worked in the budget department of the Polytechnique. Maryse Leclair, 23, was a 4th year student in engineering materials. Anne-Marie Lemay, 27, was a 4th year student in mechanical engineering. Sonia Pelletier, 28, was to graduate the next day in mechanical engineering. She was awarded a degree posthumously. Michele Richard, 21, was a 2nd year student in engineering materials. Annie St-Arneault, 23, was a mechanical engineering student. Annie Turcotte, 21, was a first year student in engineering materials. We know the root causes of these massacres, where and how will it end? |
