High School Football Standout Charged with Rape

One of the state's top high school football players is charged with raping a 13-year-old girl in Lexington.

Lexington police say 19-year old Cornell Burbage, II has been arrested and charged with rape and sodomy.

He's in jail on a $15,000 bond.

Burbage was a star wide receiver and kick returner for Lexington Catholic.

He just completed his senior season.

He's headed to play in college at New Mexico State.

His father was a star receiver at UK who went on to play in the NFL.

White teens at his school are sad, they are crying

Former Lexington Football Star Sentenced Today

Quote:
Today was sentencing day for a former Lexington Catholic High School football star who pleaded guilty to raping a young teen.

Cornell Burbage pleaded guilty last year to second degree rape and sodomy charges.

Today, he was sentenced for those crimes.

Investigators say his victim was a 13-year old girl.

Before his arrest, Burbage was recruited by New Mexico State.

There's no word yet on how long Burbage will spend behind bars for the crime.
