A woman was raped by a man who offered to help her after she became unwell outside a nightclub in Northampton.

Police said the 22-year-old woman, of Chinese origin, had been helped out of NBs in a drunken state on Saturday.

A man approached her at 0300 GMT and helped her walk across Bridge Street towards the St Peter's Way car park.

He put her in a car and drove her to a quiet location where she was raped three times. She was then driven back to the town centre.

The man asked her to leave the car at the junction of York Road and St Edmund's Road at about 0515 GMT.

The woman told two passers-by that she had been attacked and they helped her raise the alarm.

Police were called and she was taken to Northampton General Hospital.

The woman, who is 5ft (1.52m) and slim, was wearing a three-quarter length coat, black tights and grey leather boots.

The man was described as black or mixed race, between 5ft 5in (1.65m) to 5ft 9in (1.75m) in height, aged in his early 20s and of slim build.

He had shoulder-length hair, worn in a dreadlock style.

An artist's impression of the man police believe abducted and repeatedly raped a 22-year-old woman in Northampton has been released.

The victim had left the town's NBs nightclub in a drunken state early on Saturday morning.

Her attacker offered to help her and the pair walked across Bridge Street before he put her into a vehicle in St Peter's Way car park at about 0320 GMT.

She was driven to an unknown location before being raped three times.

The woman, who is not familiar with Northampton, described the place she was attacked as a dead-end location with no buildings but surrounded by iron railings.

Distinct thick lips

The man then dropped her off in the town centre at the junction of York Road and St Edmund's Road at about 0515 GMT.

Police want to hear from anyone who recognises the attacker described as black or mixed race.

He was between 5ft 5in (1.65m) to 5ft 9in (1.75m) in height, aged in his early 20s and of slim build.

He had shoulder length pleated or dreadlocked hair that was swept back, small eyes and distinctively thick lips.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the man or anyone who may have seen a man driving a light-coloured four-door saloon car in the town.
