STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- When a New Brighton woman suffered a serious asthma attack in January and had to be taken to the hospital, she asked a neighbor to mind four of her young children.
But 34-year-old Grayson Cooper, whom the children called "Uncle Prince," violated that trust.
Cooper sodomized the woman’s 9-year-old son that day.
A law-enforcement source said he had previously sexually abused the boy.
The Van Buren Street resident and drug felon will now pay for his crime by spending the next 10 years behind bars.
Cooper pleaded guilty today in state Supreme Court, St. George, to a felony charge of first-degree criminal sexual act (formerly classified as sodomy). It was the top count against him, said a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.

According to the source, the victim and his family knew the defendant well.
So when the woman became ill, she asked Cooper to keep an eye on her four oldest children, ranging in age from 9 to 4, while her youngest child accompanied her to the hospital.
When she returned home later that night from Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton, the woman found something was amiss. She asked her son if Cooper touched him and he said he had been sodomized, said the source. The boy also said a similar incident had occurred Dec. 21.
The woman notified police. On launching an investigation, authorities determined that DNA recovered from the victim’s underwear matched Cooper’s "genetic material".
