A Sioux Falls man faces up to life in prison accused of taking part in a sex ring involving children as young as seven years old. The investigation into 41-year-old Paul Churchill dates back to April. That's when child protective services notified police about possible sexual abuse.
Investigators then questioned the 14-, 9- and 7-year old kids about what was going on. That led to Churchill's arrest and Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape.
Court papers say Churchill was sexually active with two children he's related to and a third he knows through an acquaintance several times between Jan
uary 2008 and March of this year.
The 14-year-old girl told detectives she and a seven-year-old girl performed oral sex on Churchill on multiple occasions. She says in the spring of 2008, he called her and asked her to come help clean his house. When she arrived, Churchill took her to his bedroom, sat down and asked her quote, "Do you want to get on top of this?" But she left the room. When she came back, she found Churchill naked and he offered her five dollars for sex. She told the detectives the intercourse was painful, and that Churchill said "thank you" when he was finished.
Court documents also say the nine-year-old boy told investigators that Churchill would make him touch the seven-year-old girl so he would not whip them, and that he had watched her perform oral sex on Churchill.
The seven-year-old girl told investigators that Churchill would make her pull down her pants and they would perform oral sex on each other. She also said Churchill would fondle her and put "his privates" inside of
her. The girl said she told Churchill to stop because it hurt.
Churchill asked for a jury trial. A date for that has not been set, but it could begin as early as next month.
Investigators made a second arrest in connection with this case. Cara Prince, 44, is accused of performing oral sex on the 14-year-old girl while being photographed and allowing other photos to be taken of the two of them while they were naked together. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
