Police: Suspect Plotted In Notebook To Assault, Rape RMU Student

Suspect: 'I Tried To Kill Her But She Didn't Die'

MOON, Pa. -- Moon Township police have arrested a 22-year-old man after he confessed to sexually assaulting a Robert Morris University student and plotting in a notebook to kill her.

Police said when officers arrived at the townhouse on Newton Square Drive at 8 p.m. Thursday they saw the victim, a 20-year-old woman, with facial injuries and having trouble breathing outside the apartment.

"We did not see her until she got closer and she said, 'Hel
p me, please help me,' and we did, we called an ambulance," a neighbor -- who did not want to be identified -- told Channel 4 Action News' Tara Edwards.

Police said they also found Damilola Mayowa Adewale, 22, of Moon Township, holding a black cord in his hand.

When asked what had happened, police said Adewale told them, "I tried to kill her but she didn't die so I punched her and choked her."

According to the criminal complaint, the victim was taken to Sewickley Valley Hospital where she told police she was walking down the stairs in her apartment when Adewale tried to choke her with a USB cable around her neck.

The victim told police she was able to loosen the cord, but Adewale began choking her with his hands and she blacked out.

When she regained consciousness, Adewale hit her in the face and raped her twice, according to the criminal complaint.

Adewale continually threatened the victim with a knife a
nd said he would not kill her if she agreed to kill him by slitting his wrists, according to the criminal complaint.

Adewale called for help after the victim told him she would not do it and needed medical attention, according to the criminal complaint.

That's when the victim was able to escape, police said.

According to the victim, Adewale was a friend of one of her roommates and had temporarily moved in while they were out of town.

The victim told police Adewale confessed to planning the assault for a week and detailing it in a journal.

According to the criminal complaint, Adewale told Detective Timothy Langan that he had documented in two notebooks killing the victim.

Adewale also told Langan that he was willing to let the victim live if she would sacrifice one of her body parts.

According to the criminal
complaint, the victim told Adewale that he could take one of her toes, but he did not act.

Adewale was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on $500,000 straight bond and faces several charges, including aggravated assault, rape, and criminal attempt to commit homicide.
