Illegal immigrant Marco Riz gets 30 years in rape, kidnapping

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - An illegal immigrant who admitted raping a woman in Roger Williams Park has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

According to Michael Healy, spokesman for Attorney General Patrick Lynch, Marco Riz , 27, pleaded no contest on April 6 in Providence County Superior Court to two counts of first-degree sexual assault.

"In exchange for the plea and to spare the victim from having to testify, charges of kidnapping, felony assault and second-degree carjacking were dismissed," said Healey.

/URL] to 60 years. Thirty of them to be served at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston and the other 30 suspended with probation.

Police accused Riz of carjacking a woman in a Stop & Shop parking lot in Warwick last June, then drove her to Roger Williams Park in Providence, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her twice.

The victim told police she was sitting in the passenger seat of her mother's parked car, when the suspect approached the vehicle.

Authorities said Riz is an illegal immigrant and that he could be deported after serving his time.

PROVIDENCE –– A man who pleaded no contest to raping a woman in Roger Williams Park in Providence last June has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Marco Riz, 27, whose last address was 183 Linwood Ave., Providence, pleaded no contest on April 6 in Providence County Superior Court to two counts of first-degree sexual assault, according to Michael J. Healey, spokesman for the attorney general’s office. In exchange for the plea and to spare the victim from having to testify, Healey said, charges of kid
napping, robbery, felony assault with a dangerous weapon and second-degree carjacking were dismissed.

Riz, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, had been ordered deported in 2004, an order that an immigration judge upheld in 2007, but he remained in the state.

forever. A man with a knife and no good intentions suddenly was right there in the driver's seat. The police later arrested 27-year-old Marco Riz, who admitted he raped Heather in Roger Williams Park. Marco Riz is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who was working at a Texas Roadhouse restaurant.
