KNOXVILLE - The illegal immigrant accused of killing an Alabama homecoming queen in her West Knox County hotel room has been indicted on multiple charges. In an indictment issued Tuesday, Valentino Vasquez Miranda is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, aggravated burglary, especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape and abuse of a corpse inconnection with the death of Jennifer Lee Hampton, 21, who was in town helping to set up a new restaurant.

Miranda, 19 at the time, worked at the Days Inn on Lovell Road and is accused of using a master key card to acce
ss Hampton's room on Sept. 20. Hampton's nude body was found Sept. 27 floating in Melton Hill Lake. She apparently had been strangled.

Saturday, Sept. 20, KPD arrested two Day’s Inn employees on charges of falsifying documents. Both were illegal aliens with illegitimate social security cards.

Valentino Miranda and Rogelio Melchor are currently being held without bond by order of federal immigration officials.

“It’s one of those two,”� DeBusk said, adding KPD had only one suspect “at this time.”�

A Knox County grand jury indicted Valentino Vasquez Miranda, 20, Tuesday on charges of first degree murder, felony murder, aggravated burglary, especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, and abuse of a corpse in connection with the murder of Jennifer Lee Hampton, 21.

Hampton was staying at the Days Inn on Lovell Road on September 20th last year when according to documents filed by police in the case, Miranda, who was a housekeeper for Days Inn, allegedly used a key card to gain access to the room.

He allegedly raped Hampton, strangled her, then dumped her body into the Clinch River. Her body was found a week later.

Hampton had been in town to help open a restaurant in West Knoxville. She was from Alabama.

Miranda was arrested on the day police were called to the hotel to investigate Hampton's disappearance. He was in possession of what police said was a
fake social security card.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents did not charge the motel's managers with employing an illegal immigrant saying the managers acted in good faith in hiring the man. (LINK)

The worst hotel we have ever stayed in. This place takes dirty to a new height!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our sheets had not even been changed, the bathroom was filthy!!!!!! It just plain out stank!!!!!! There are plenty of hotels to stay in around the town, so please pay a little more and avoid this one!!!!!!!!!!!!

This hotel was very disappointing. The first room we were given had a dirty toilet seat, ants in the bathroom, stained pillow case and a ripped bedspread. We asked for another room and they nicely obliged. The second room was a slight fraction better - cleaner and no ants. However, the second night, housekeeping had put a sheet on our bed that had what appeared to be a blood stain on it. The whole experience was just GROSS! Thank God we only needed 2 nights.

Couldn't find info on owner, operator or mgt. But I think it safe to assume he looked something like the Indian below, that is, prior to our government giving him low-interest, no-interest grants and loans. Now, in America, he’s a much respected, successful merchant and businessman. A number one, first class citizen kind of guy. And we don’t even have to be concerned with who he is or where he comes from, or even worry with who he hires at his government-funded business. A Jan. 11 trial date has been set for a man accused of killing a former Waterloo homecoming queen during her stay at the Knoxville motel where he worked. Valentino Vasquez Miranda, 20, is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, aggravated burglary, especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape and abuse of corpse in connection with the Sept. 20, 2008, strangulation death of Jennifer
Lee Hampton. Miranda, who authorities say is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, could receive the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.

Miranda, 20, spoke through an interpreter during his brief court appearance.

Knoxville police contend Miranda used his pass key to enter Hampton's room, where he sexually assaulted and killed her before taking her to a nearby lake and dumping her body.

Hampton's nude body was found in Melton Hill Lake a week after she was reported missing from the motel. Hampton, 21, was a waitress at Mama Blues Buffet in Florence.

She was staying at the motel while helping train employees preparing to open a Mama Blues in Knoxville.

The motel, which was a Days Inn when Hampton was killed, is now an AmeriStays Hotel and Suites.

During a preliminary hearing in October, Morton read a report from forensic investigators who found traces of Miranda's DNA beneath Hampton's fingernails and her blood on his clothing.

Morton said Thurs
day that prosecutors have not decided if they will seek the death penalty.
"It's still a little bit early to be making those types of decisions," he said.
Miranda is being held in the Knox County Detention Facility on $1 million bond.

Earlier this week, attorneys representing Hampton's parents, Michael Peden and Cynthia Senn, announced the lawsuit against the motel where Hampton was killed and its parent companies had been settled.

The lawsuit sought $100 million in damages.
The amount of the settlement is confidential, but an attorney involved in the negotiations said it involved a multi-million dollar settlement.
