GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Grand Prairie police are looking for a man who conned his way into an elderly woman’s home. They said he sexually assaulted her and set her on fire.

According to police, the incident happened Monday at about 2 p.m. in the 1800 block of Sunnyvale Road.

The man allegedly knocked on the woman’s door and introduced himself as Daniel, a 22-
year-old college student from Chicago. He said he was staying at an area motel and he was trying to talk to people to earn points for a communications exercise, police said.

But, police said after the woman let him into her home he assaulted her and poured rubbing alcohol on her chest. He set her on fire, they said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with second degree burns from her stomach to chin.

She told police her attacker was a black male who was between 20 and 25 years old. He weighed about 160 to 190 pounds and stood between 6 and 6 feet 4 inches tall. He wore a white shirt and multicolored paints. His hair was styled in short, tight corn rows.

Police hope someone will recognize him from the description and call Detective Tracy Hinson at 972-237-877 or Crime Stoppers at 972-988-8477.

Arrest made in Grand Prairie rape, burning

GRAND PRAIRIE — An arson investigator helped detectives identify the Fort Worth man who was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of raping a 78-year-old woman and setting her on fire, a police spokesman said.

Daniel Deshawn Neal, 23, was arrested 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in west Fort Worth, said Detective John Brimmer, police spokesman.
Neal, who put up a brief struggle, was taken to the Grand Prairie Jail, Brimmer said. He will be charged with first degree aggravated sexual assault, Brimmer said.

The woman, who was attacked Monday afternoon at her home in the 1800 block of Sunnyvale Road, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospi
tal in Dallas with second-degree burns from her abdomen to her chin, according to earlier reports.

She was in stable condition Wednesday at the hospital and is "expected to recover from her burns," Brimmer said.

The woman told officers that the assailant came to her door about 2 p.m. Monday and introduced himself as Daniel, 22, from Chicago, according to earlier reports.

He told the woman that he was working on a communications exercise to get into college, and that he was staying at a motel.
She allowed him into the house, where he attacked her and then doused her with rubbing alcohol, which he lighted, police said.
Neal emerged as a suspect Tuesday when he was identified by another man who reportedly had been working with him Monday, selling magazine subscriptions in the victim's neighborhood.

The other man was noticed in the neighborhood Tuesday afternoon by Lt. Randy Willis, a fire department arson investigator, Brimmer said.
Willis called police who went to the location and questioned t
he man. He told them that a man fitting the description of the suspect worked with him on Monday.

The man also said that the suspect would be working with another crew in Fort Worth.

Grand Prairie police got an arrest warrant, Brimmer said, and they contacted Zero Tolerance officers in Fort Worth. Together they set up surveillance at West Loop 820 and White Settlement Road, where the crew was scheduled to meet.

"Officers positively identified the suspect named in the warrant and arrested him after a brief struggle," Brimmer said. "DNA samples will be taken to match to evidence from the sexual assault exam."

Brimmer added that detectives are "confident from evidence gathered that Neal is the man responsible for the assault."
The crime is a first-degree felony, generally punishable by five to 99 years behind bars, although prosecutors can also seek sentences for life in prison

Brimmer warned people to be wary of sales people who come to their neighborhoods without credentials.

"Anyone selling
from door-to-door must have a permit identifying who they are and who they represent," he said. "If there is any doubt, never let that person into your home and call the police."

A door-to-door magazine salesman was sentenced to three life sentences today after he was convicted of raping and burning a 79-year-old Grand Prairie woman in her home.

State District Judge Carter Thompson sentenced Daniel Neal, 24, to the maximum allowed by law.

Earlier, in a trial before the judge, Neal was convicted of two counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count of aggravated assault on an elderly person.

The rape victim was in the courtroom for today's verdict.

She testified Thursday that Neal came to her door last March selling magazines and asked to use her bathroom.

She said he then attacked her sexually before dousing her in rubbing alcohol and setting her on fire.

Testifying in his own defense today, Neal said the sex was consensual. (Yeah, I'm sure a 79 year old white lady wanted to have sex with this nigger)

He added that he'd had consensual sex with five other women during the two years he sold magazines.

A defense psychiatrist testified that Neal is mentally deficient, with an IQ of about 65. (Don't they all)
