White man murdered by home nigvaders
Police release description of intruders that killed Robbinsdale man
The 2700 block of York Avenue North in Robbinsdale was quiet on Wednesday. The mail came to 2745 York as it did every day, but the events of early Tuesday morning made this week anything but "normal".
Jamis Marks, 28, and
Heather Marks, 29, had just arrived home from a New Year's Eve celebration. There was a knock at the front door. Two intruders burst in. Jamis was shot multiple times and died later at nearby North Memorial Hospital.
Robbinsdale Police Chief Wayne Shellum says there was a struggle for the gun. "The victim, in this case, he struggled with one of the suspects for the gun, that sometime during the confrontation, they, for some reason, he went after one of the suspects with the gun and during that struggle, he was shot," Shellum said.
Police are looking for 2 "
dark-skinned black males," described as being in their 20's. One suspect is 5'11" to 6' tall, weighing 175 pounds. The other is described as 6'1" to 6'3", weighing 250 pounds or more.
Shellum confirms that Heather Marks and one of the other guests were struck by the intruders, but their injuries were not serious.
The two men took cell phones, jewelry and wallets from the four people in the house after shooting Jamis Marks.
The pair tried to re-enter the home after leaving, but were stopped by a male guest of the Marks who blocked the door.
The apparent randomness of the crime has left neighbors, like Tim Schwartz, more than a little nervous. "Yeah, one of the neighbor ladies two houses down from them came over yesterday. She was really shaken up. She leaves her front door unlocked and not any more though," Schwartz said.
Police are hoping someone in the public will come forward and give them the break they need to solve this case.
