Mount Pleasant Police have arrested Lawrence Pinckney,38, in connection to the murder of Anthony Chiaramonte,73, of Mount Pleasant.
Chiaramonte lived in the Charleston National neighborhood, and his death marks the first murder of the year for the town of Mount Pleasant.
Police say they followed up on some leads that led them to Pinckey. "We do have one individual in custody, but we have to make sure that we follow up all the leads and that there is nothing we need to be concerned about, said Sergeant Meadows of the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
After Pinckney agreed to talk with them, they say they gathered enough information to make charges against him.
Over the past 21 years, Pinckey has been in and out of jail nearly 20 times for various reasons including assault and battery, domestic violence and public drunkenness.
Police have not released much information on how Pinckney ended up in Chiaramonte's home, however, they say the two men knew each other. "We do believe that they were acquaintances at this time. We're not sure how long they knew each other, which is one of the things we're trying to determine, Meadows said.
Chiaramonte died in his home in the Charleston National neighborhood. Police say when they found him he was lying flat on his back at the foot of the bed and there was blood on the carpet. Officials say he died from blunt force trauma to the head.
