NEWNAN, Ga. (FOX 5) – Police are looking for the gunman who shot and killed an elderly man in cold blood Friday morning. Investigators said 70-year-old Bill Williamson died during a home invasion.

Newnan police said a black male broke into Williamson's home on Roberts Road, off East Washington Road, and shot the man to death.
Williamson and his wife were in the kitchen when they were confronted by the suspect.

Investigators said the suspect shot Williamson twice. His wife was able to hide and was not injured.

Shards of glass remained at the spot where police said the suspect entered the house.

Williamson and his wife were very well-known in the community and Friday, many people stopped by the home to pay their respects.

Family friend Pamela Little said Williamson was a good man who loved life and was crazy about his grandkids.

"He was very giving, an established member of the community, loving, generous man," said Little.

The family had just celebrated Thanksgiving at Williamson's house and that was the last time anyone saw him.

"It's just very difficult for the family because it's wrong to lose someone this way," said Little.

Neighbors mourned Williamson's loss and hoped his killer would be brought to justice.

"He's had health problems, she had surgery. We thought something had happened, but when they started putting up crime time, I knew something bad had happened," said neighbor Terry Spratlin.

"We hope and pray the person responsible for this is found and justice is served," said Little.

Investigators are still searching for Williamson's killer.
