Boyfriend sought in burning death

Police are seeking a 43-year-old man suspected of killing a 40-year-old Milwaukee woman and critically injuring her 24-year-old niece early Saturday by dousing them with gasoline and setting them on fire at an apartment in the 6900 block of N. 60th St.

The woman killed in the attack was Deshon Tucker, said her daughter, Shavon, on Saturday night.

Police are searching for Deshon Tucker's boyfriend, 43-year-old Martin R. Fitzgerald.

Firefighters were called to the scene at about 1:10 a.m. The injured woman had jumped out of the home, her body on fire, and Deshon Tucker was found inside.

The niece was taken to Columbia St. Mary's Hospital Milwaukee with burns over 70% of her body, police Capt. Timothy Burkee said.

Fitzgerald, who is also wanted on a warrant in a bank robbery, Burkee said, is described as a black male, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 160 pounds, but is known to disguise himself as a woman.

"Pearls and all," Burkee said.

He is believed to be driving a four-door, dark blue 1996 Chevrolet Corsica, with a Wisconsin license plate of 650 LUC. Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call (414) 935-7302.

About 75 people attended a vigil Saturday night in front of the N. 60th St. apartment building.

"She was like everybody's mom; she raised practically everyone," Shavon Tucker said of her mother. "You could call her when you needed something. I just feel like it wasn't her time."

Arson-Related Homicide Suspect Sought

An arson-related homicide on the city's north side early Saturday morning.

A man is accused of killing one woman and critically injuring another by throwing gasoline on them and setting them on fire at an apartment building in the 6900 block of N. 60th St.

The homicide victim and the suspect had a relationship, according to police.

The injured victim has burns over 70-percent of her body.

The rest of the apartment building residents had to be evacuated. The fire caused 50-thousand dollars in damage.

Police are still on the lookout for the suspect, Martin R. Fitzgerald.

Two Women Set on Fire

MILWAUKEE - One woman was killed and another critically injured early Saturday when they were apparently set on fire in an apartment building at 60th and Spokane, just north of Green Tree Road.

Police said a 40-year-old woman is dead and a 24-year-old woman is in critical condition after a man poured gasoline over the women and then lit them on fire.

A 21-year-old bystander saved one of the women. Keith Jones said he was on the phone outside when he saw the 24-year-old woman jump out a first floor window.

"She jumped out the window and you know her legs was on fire, you know the bottom part of her legs was on fire, Jones explained. "Her body was on fire. You know I ran over there, took my shirt off and put her out."

The woman is recovering at the Columbia Saint Mary's burn center with burns over 70% of her body.

The rest of the residents of the 10 unit building were evacuated and remain homeless.

Police report that the deceased woman and the suspect had some sort of relationship. They are searching for Martin R. Fitzgerald, 41, of Milwaukee. Police call the case a homicide.

This fire was confined to the one apartment but it caused $50,000 damage to the building

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Police Department has arrested a man they said doused his girlfriend with gasoline and set her on fire Saturday, killing her, reported WISN-TV in Milwaukee.

They also arrested him in connection with a string of robberies, including the armed robbery of a Guaranty Bank on Sunday.

Martin Fitzgerald was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Monday without resistance, police said.

Authorities have not said where Fitzgerald was taken into custody, but said that it was within city limits.

Fitzgerald is also suspected in the armed robbery of a Walgreens store, where police said he dressed himself as a woman.

Surveillance video captured during the July 24 robbery shows a man wearing a shoulder-length wig and a dress.
