A Donegal based Asylum seeker was yesterday jailed for four years in Derry for Rape.
19 year-old
Henry Ojaiko who lives in Donegal Town raped the woman during a student’s party in a house on Argyle Street, Derry on June 16th last year.
The court heard Ojaiko was forced to fight as a child soldier in the Liberian war; he was forcibly recruited when he was ten after his parents had been killed.
He fled to Ireland two years ago after he had been shot in the leg.
O jaiko is now the subject of a deportation order and will be deported from Northern Ireland to the Republic after he completes his sentenced.
In handing down the sentence Judge Corinne Philpot said she took Ojaiko's background into consideration stating it was bound to have had an effect on his general view of how people are treated.
On his return to the republic its expected that Ojaiko will be departed back to Liberia.
